A striking statement piece handcrafted from natural hemp, the Aarna Wall Hanging brings texture, depth and movement to larger walls while retaining a sense of lightness. Three individual crocheted panels can be layered and arranged to suit your space, creating a draped composition that feels uniquely yours.
Does the Aarna Wall Hanging come with a hanging rod? Yes. The Aarna is supplied with a 95cm / 37.4in natural bamboo hanging rod.
How do I hang the Aarna Wall Hanging? You will need two hooks or screws to secure the rod to the wall, one at each end. The wall hanging weighs approximately 5kg / 6.6lb, so be sure to use wall plugs and hooks suitable for the weight and your wall type.
Can I use a different hanging rod? Yes. The included bamboo rod can be replaced with something that better suits your interior, such as a branch or piece of driftwood, a black metal, copper or brass rod, or even a length of rope.
Can I change the arrangement of the three panels? Yes. Each panel has hanging loops at the top that can be moved along the rod, allowing you to adjust how the panels overlap and drape. Experiment with their position until you find a composition that works for your space.
Can the Aarna Wall Hanging be custom made? Yes. We can custom make the Aarna in different dimensions to suit your wall. Email us at hello@thedharmadoor.com.au with your preferred dimensions and we’ll provide a quote.
Will my Aarna look exactly like the one pictured? Each Aarna is made by hand from natural, handspun hemp, so variations in the fibres, crochet and finished form are part of the character of each piece.
Three individual panels are layered to create depth, movement and a draped form.
Natural handspun and crocheted hemp creates raw texture and variation in every piece.
Adjustable panels can be arranged to create a composition that feels uniquely yours.
A statement piece for larger walls, stairwells, bedrooms and open living or dining spaces.
Before an Aarna Wall Hanging takes shape, the hemp fibres have already passed through many hands. Grown by small-scale farmers in Bangladesh, the hemp is harvested, sun-dried and prepared by hand before Fair Trade artisans spin the fibres into long, continuous lengths using their fingers and an age-old system of posts and counterweights.
The handspun hemp is then passed to another group of women artisans, who crochet each of the three panels by hand. Open knotted sections are combined with close-weave crochet to create variation in texture and transparency across the finished piece.
Through our long-standing Fair Trade partnership, this process brings together specialised skills across farming and artisan communities while providing regular work, fair wages and safe working conditions.
