MATERIALS

The outer layer is handwoven from braided jute and bone-coloured cotton, creating a textured, durable fabric.

A fixed cotton lining is sewn into the interior to help contain and protect what’s stored inside.

A layer of recycled rubber is sewn between the outer and lining, helping the basket hold its shape and stand upright.

The handles are handcrafted from jute and firmly sewn into the basket for strength.

MAKING

Each Soha Laundry Basket is made in two stages.

The outer layer is handwoven on traditional wooden looms by women artisans in a rural community in Bangladesh. Once complete, the fabric is sewn and constructed by women in a Fair Trade workshop.

This process brings together specialised skills, supporting consistent work and fair wages across both weaving and sewing groups.

CARE
  • Use for dry laundry only. Prolonged exposure to moisture may lead to mould or discolouration. If using for plants, place a waterproof liner or tray inside to protect the basket
  • Keep out of direct sunlight, as jute will naturally change colour over time
  • Baskets are gently folded for shipping and may need reshaping on arrival. Press out any creases, then fill with towels or blankets to help restore shape
  • Vacuum regularly or take outside and shake to remove dust
  • Blot spills immediately with an absorbent cloth. Do not rub, as this may spread the stain or loosen fibres
  • For oil-based or coloured spills, consult a professional cleaner
  • You may choose to apply a protection treatment suitable for natural fibres before use
FAQ'S

What is the difference between Bone and Natural?
The colour difference is created by the cotton thread woven through the natural jute. Bone uses a light, neutral off-white thread, resulting in a lighter basket suited to cooler and neutral tones. Natural uses a warmer-toned thread, typically suited to warmer and neutral toned interiors.

Does the basket hold its shape?
Yes, the structured weave and internal rubber layer help it stand upright, even when empty.

Is the lining removable?
No, the cotton lining is fixed in place.

What can it be used for?
In addition to laundry, it can be used for storing toys, exercise or yoga gear and other everyday items.

Will it be shipped upright or folded?
This basket is gently folded for shipping and may need reshaping on arrival. Press out any creases, then fill with towels or blankets for a day or two to help restore shape.

Can it be used for wet laundry?
We recommend using the basket for dry laundry only. Prolonged exposure to moisture may lead to mould or discolouration, so wet items should be dried before placing inside.

Can it be used to hold plants?
Yes, but we recommend placing a deep plastic tray or waterproof liner inside to protect the basket from moisture and potential mould.

From Their Hands To Yours

We partner with a Fair Trade organisation in Bangladesh that supports the women who make our Soha Laundry Baskets through both weaving and sewing.

The outer layer is woven by women in rural areas, working from their homes or in shared village weaving spaces. Using traditional loom weaving techniques passed down through generations, this skilled work makes it possible for them to remain within their communities, supporting their families while earning a fair, consistent income.

Once the fabric is woven, it is sent to Dhaka, where it is cut, sewn and constructed in a Fair Trade workshop by women who have come from challenging circumstances. This work provides opportunities to develop skills, earn an income and build more secure futures.
