TASSEL WALL HANGING | CARE & HANGING GUIDE

Introduce warmth and texture to your walls with The Dharma Door statement-making Tassel Wall Hanging. Handcrafted from natural blonde jute, this wall hanging will introduce a layer of softness and depth to your home decor. A favourite for texture lovers, the Jumbo Tassel Wall Hanging is perfect for filling a large wall, with the added benefit of absorbing sound and improving the acoustics in areas of your home like a stairwell, hallway or entry. The smaller Tassel Wall Hanging is ideal for adding personality to smaller living spaces, children's rooms or nurseries and on narrow walls. If you prefer a neutral palette, this natural jute wall hanging is a wonderful alternative to traditional artwork and can work well as a key feature in any room.

Artisanal objects have long been appreciated for their uniqueness. Because our wall hangings have been completely handcrafted by talented Fair Trade artisans in small village communities in Bangladesh, they are one of a kind and reflect the individual weaving style of the artisan who made it. We believe that this is part of the special appeal of handwoven products. Your Tassel Wall Hanging has been carefully crafted using natural jute fibres and row upon row of blonde jute tassels attached to an intricate macrame base piece and we hope you will appreciate the individuality of your special piece.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR TASSEL WALL HANGING

You’ve invested in a quality piece and we want to help you to care for it well. With a little attention, you will be able to enjoy your Tassel Wall Hanging for many years to come. Here are a few simple tips to keep in mind:

    • When you receive your jute Tassel Wall Hanging it will be folded in a satchel. When you unfold it, you may notice that it has fold marks and some of the tassels are fluffy or bent. To help them sit flat, simply use your fingers to bend and brush the tassels. You may need to do this several times.
    • Prolonged sunlight and water can alter the colour of jute fibres, so be sure to hang your wall hanging in a position where it will not be exposed to direct sunlight or damp for extended periods.
    • You may choose to add protection to your wall hanging prior to use. We recommend using a protection spray that is suitable for natural fibres and that filter UV light to limit yellowing of the jute over time. We recommend a product called Fiber ProTector® by MicroSeal as it is specifically formulated to suit natural fibres and will protect your wall hanging from dirt, spills and yellowing.
    • To clean your wall hanging, we suggest an occasional gentle vacuum to keep it fresh and free of dust, or take it outside on a dry day and lightly shake it to remove dust particles.
    • To ensure your Tassel Wall Hanging retains its shape, we advise you to follow our detailed hanging instructions below.

HOW TO HANG YOUR TASSEL WALL HANGING

There are several macrame hanging tabs all across the top of your Tassel Wall Hanging that are designed to hold a hanging rod. You will need two hooks - one for each end of the rod.

The hooks will show for this wall hanging so there are several options, depending on your decor and preferred style:

For a discreet look, use simple long screws and rest the rod on top. This is not as secure as using hooks, so only do this if the wall hanging is in a position where it won’t be brushed or leant against or pulled on by children or pets. Go one step further and paint the screws the same colour as your walls so they are not obviously visible. Cup Hooks are still discreet but much more secure. You can position the hanging tabs of our tassel wall hangings over the cup hooks so they almost can't be seen. We prefer brass cup hooks and sand them to further reduce the brassy shine. Remember to check that the diameter of your hanging rod fits into the cup hook. Go bold with some hand forged black hooks. Or natural and organic with timber hooks. If you are renting or unsure about the location of your wall hanging, use self-adhesive Command Hooks™️ that suit the weight of your wall hanging.

ROD TYPE for Tassel Wall Hangings

We recommend 20-25mm (1”) diameter, cut to 110cm long (43½”) for the Jumbo Tassel Wall Hanging and 15-18mm (¾”) diameter, cut to 50cm (20”) long the Tassel Wall Hanging.

    • Simple timber dowels are readily available from hardware stores. Some stores will cut the dowel to size for you. Pro tip: Paint it the same colour as your wall if you don’t want the rod to stand out.
    • Copper pipe, brass or stainless steel tubing to introduce sleek metallics and for a more contemporary look.
    • A short curtain rod in rubbed bronze or black works especially well in modern and farmhouse-style interiors.
    • Go natural with a foraged branch or a bamboo pole. Pro tip: Keep in mind that knots in natural wood are often a little bigger so check carefully that the hanging loops will fit over them.

    1. Measure where you want the wall hanging to hang and mark on the wall with a pencil according to the position of the hanging loops.
    2. a) If drilling into a plasterboard/drywall, brick, stucco or stone wall, use a drill bit that is the same size as the anchors/wall plugs. Drill your hole/s and hammer the anchors/wall plugs into the hole/s. b) If drilling into timber, use a drill bit that is the same size as the screws or cup hooks.
    3. Screw your chosen hook into the anchors/wall plugs or holes.
    4. Hang your wall hanging and enjoy the transformation to your space!

We believe that this is part of the special appeal of handwoven products. HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR MANDALA WALL HANGING

You’ve invested in a quality piece and we want to help you to care for it well. With a little attention, you will be able to enjoy your Mandala Wall Hanging for many years to come. Here are a few simple tips to keep in mind:

    • When your Mandala Wall Hanging arrives it will be in a cardboard box. Once opened, you may notice that the outer fringe is a little bent from moving around during transit. To help it to sit flat against your wall, lay your wall hanging on the floor or a table and simply use your fingers to bend and coax the outer fringe back into shape. You may need to repeat this process several times to get things just right.
    • To clean your Mandala, we suggest an occasional gentle vacuum to keep it fresh and free of dust, or take it outside on a dry day and lightly shake it to remove dust particles.
    • To ensure your Mandala Wall Hanging retains its round flat shape,  we advise you to follow our detailed hanging instructions below.

HOW TO HANG YOUR MANDALA WALL HANGING

There are two macrame hanging loops on the back attached to the outer bamboo ring amongst the outer fringe, so you will need two hooks. We strongly recommend that you use both loops when hanging the piece to maintain its beautiful round shape. The hooks will not show for this wall hanging so something simple like two screws or cup hooks will be suitable. If you are renting or unsure about the location of your wall hanging, use self-adhesive Command Hooks™️.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR PUSPA WALL HANGING

You’ve invested in a quality piece and we want to help you to care for it well. With a little attention, you will be able to enjoy your Puspa Wall Hanging for many years to come. Here are a few simple tips to keep in mind:

    • When your Puspa Wall Hanging arrives it will be in a cardboard box. It will be attached with jute string to an inner cardboard sleeve to prevent it from moving around during transit. Remove the sleeve and snip the strings to release the wall hanging.
    • Strong direct sunlight may affect the colour and strength of the seagrass and jute,  and prolonged damp may encourage mould growth, therefore we do not recommend this wall hanging for outdoor use where it will be exposed to the elements for long periods.
    • To clean, we suggest you gently wipe it over with a microfibre cloth or duster.
    • To ensure your Puspa Wall Hanging retains its round flat shape,  we advise you to follow our detailed hanging instructions below.

AMUA & TALA WALL HANGING | CARE & HANGING GUIDE

A great alternative to traditional artwork, style the Amua or Tala Wall Hanging to add texture and personality above an entryway console, bedhead or fireplace. Or position one at the end of a hallway to draw the eye! The natural tones of the palm leaf will work well in many interiors, especially amongst lots of white and other natural fibres.

The design inspiration for the Amua and Tala Wall Hangings came about while we were visiting our Fair Trade artisan partners in rural villages in Bangladesh. Woven natural mats on floors and thatched palm leaf roofs and fences are a part of their everyday lives. We reinterpreted this idea to design a wall hanging that will add a natural and textural statement to your home.

Each Amua and Tala is crafted with spliced, woven and knotted palm leaf by artisans from the villages where the design inspiration was born, and we hope you will appreciate the individuality of your special piece.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR AMUA OR TALA WALL HANGING

You’ve invested in a quality piece and we want to help you to care for it well. With a little attention, you will be able to enjoy your Amua or Tala Wall Hanging for many years to come. Here are a few simple tips to keep in mind:

    • When your Amua or Tala Wall Hanging arrives it will be in a cardboard box. It will be attached with jute string to an inner cardboard sleeve to prevent it from moving around during transit. Remove the sleeve and snip the strings to release the wall hanging.
    • Some pieces of the fringe may have been a little bent during transit. To help them sit flat, simply use your fingers to bend and brush the fringe. You may need to do this several times.
    • Strong direct sunlight may affect the colour of the palm fibres and prolonged damp may encourage mould growth, therefore we do not recommend this wall hanging for outdoor use where it will be exposed to the elements for long periods.
    • To clean, we suggest you gently wipe it over with a microfibre cloth or duster.

HOW TO HANG YOUR AMUA OR TALA WALL HANGING

Your wall hanging will already have a timber hanging rod inserted in the top with jute twine attached at each end, so you can choose from two different ways to hang this piece:

    1. You can simply place a single hook or screw in the wall and hang it by the string.
    2. If you don’t want the string to show, you can also hang this wall hanging by resting it on two screws or hooks. See below for more tips...
Either way, the hooks will show so there are several options, depending on your decor and preferred style:

    • For a discreet look, use screw/s and hang the string or rest the rod on top. This is not as secure as using hooks, so only do this if the wall hanging is in a position where it won’t be brushed or leant against or pulled on by children or pets. Go one step further and paint the screws the same colour as your walls so they are not obviously visible.
    • Cup Hooks are still discreet but much more secure if you choose the hanging rod option. You can position the cup hooks so they are at the edge of the wall hanging and almost can't be seen. We prefer brass cup hooks and sand them to further reduce the brassy shine. Remember to check that the diameter of the hanging rod (approx 15mm) fits into the cup hook.
    • Go bold with some hand forged black hooks.
    • Or natural and organic with timber hooks.
    • If you are renting or unsure about the location of your wall hanging, use self-adhesive Command Hooks™️ that suit the weight of your wall hanging.
    To hang, follow these steps:

    1. Measure where you want the wall hanging to hang and mark on the wall with a pencil according to the position of the screw/s or hook/s.
    2. a) If drilling into a plasterboard/drywall, brick, stucco or stone wall, use a drill bit that is the same size as the anchors/wall plugs.

We offer a 10% discount code for all published product reviews. Remember to leave a review on the product page sharing what you love about your Amua or Tala Wall Hanging.

ZILA BASKET | CARE & HANGING GUIDE

The natural tones and subtle weaving patterns of The Dharma Door Zila Baskets will add stunning texture and personality to your home. Depending on the size, you may choose to use one for your tabletop centrepiece or hang one on the wall. If you prefer a neutral palette and lots of white, this beautiful handcrafted basket will introduce a touch of raw luxury to your home, helping to layer textures and neutral tones. The artisanal character of these baskets means every piece has its own unique pattern, making them ideal to display in multiples, and creating a bold textural statement in your interior.

Artisanal objects have long been appreciated for their uniqueness. Traditionally used for winnowing grain, each Zila Basket is handwoven with Ilala palm by a group of women artisans in Zimbabwe and crafted to a high standard for you to enjoy in your home for many years to come. Each basket is one of a kind and reflects the individual weaving style of the artisan who made it. We believe that this is part of the special appeal of handwoven products and we hope you will appreciate the individuality of your beautiful Zila Basket.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR ZILA BASKET

You’ve invested in a quality piece and we want to help you to care for it well. With a little attention, you will be able to enjoy your Zila Basket for many years to come. Here are a few simple tips to keep in mind:

    • When you receive your basket, it may be slightly misshapen around the sides from it's time in transit. Please take some time to gently "massage" the sides and they will regain their shape when they've settled. You may need to do this several times.
    • Each piece is completely handmade, with no two pieces identically the same. This means, you will receive a unique artisanal basket that may be slightly different to the images on our website.
    • Strong direct sunlight may affect the colour of the palm fibres and prolonged damp may encourage mould growth, therefore we do not recommend this wall hanging for outdoor use where it will be exposed to the elements for long periods.
    • To clean, we suggest you vacuum or dust your tray regularly.
    • If you are using your basket for holding food, we suggest placing a cloth or paper towel underneath to protect from any possible stains.

HOW TO HANG YOUR ZILA BASKET

    • The Zila Basket does not come with a hanging loop, so it may require some creativity and dexterity. Depending on whether you wish to hang your basket concave or convex, you will need to adjust your hanging technique. If you choose any of these options you will need to follow the hanging steps further below. We suggest the following ideas:
-Thread pieces of wire through the basket and tie them on the back to create a hanging loop and hang on a screw, nail or hook on the wall.
-Attach one half of a picture hook with wire or super glue to the basket and fix the other half to the wall. D-ring picture hangers or sawtooth frame hangers are best for this option.
    • A simple hanging solution is to hammer a few nails straight through the centre of the wall hanging. If you choose this option, be sure to nail into wall studs if you have plasterboard walls as the nails won’t hold otherwise. You could choose brass or copper nails (and sand the heads so they’re not shiny) for this option so they are barely seen.
    • Instead of nails, you could use small screws. If you choose this option, follow the hanging steps below where you will need to install wall anchors/plugs if you have plasterboard walls.
    • If you are renting or unsure about the location of your wall hanging, use self-adhesive Command Hooks™️ that suit the weight of the Zila Basket that you’ve selected.

    To hang, follow these steps:

    1. Measure where you want the wall hanging to hang and mark on the wall with a pencil according to the position of the nails, screws or hooks.
    2. a) If drilling into a plasterboard/drywall, brick, stucco or stone wall, use a drill bit that is the same size as the anchors/wall plugs. Drill your holes and hammer the anchors/wall plugs into the holes.  b) If drilling into timber, use a drill bit that is the same size as the screws or cup hooks.
    3. Screw your chosen hook into the anchors/wall plugs or holes.
    4. Hang your wall hanging and enjoy the transformation to your space!

We offer a 10% discount code for all published product reviews. Remember to leave a review on the product page sharing what you love about your Zila Basket.
