Three Birds' House 13 is the Ultimate Australian Staycation

Bonnie Hindmarsh, Lana Taylor & Erin Cayless are Three Birds Renovations. Friends for more than 20 years, the trio took a leap of faith in 2014 by leaving their respective corporate careers and starting a business together. They began by flipping houses and successfully bought, renovated and sold their first property within a matter of months. Moving onto renovating their own forever homes, they now turn around a combination of new builds and renovations with lightning speed and impact.

While the style, scale and environment of each location varies, their basic success formula stays the same. So when the women started sharing their approach via videos and how-to articles, their following went skyward - sweeping across Instagram and YouTube and turning the busy mums into social media sensations. Where their style, passion and camaraderie obviously resonated with people, so did their step-by-step approach to the planning and design of each project. Which is how The Renovation School came to be. The Three Birds’ online renovation course now teaches budding renovators how to turn their renovating dreams into reality using the women’s hard-earned ‘birds of wisdom’.

More recently, the trio launched their first book, ‘Three Birds Renovations: Dream Home How-To’. Packed with details from their projects, words of encouragement and more than 400 renovating tips, it aims to help others avoid budget blow-outs and manage trades, timelines and style without stress. The Dharma Door loved being included in the Three Birds House 13 - here’s how these clever ladies included items from our collection into the project.

The Birds billed House 13 as the Ultimate Australian Staycation

Situated in the Hills District of Sydney, the sprawling single-storey new build belongs to their good friend Louisa Shield, who is Bonnie’s offsider in the Three Birds business. Surrounded by green fields and Aussie bushland, the project represents a sea-to-tree change for Louisa and her family and combines a relaxed holiday vibe with ultra-luxe elements.

Let's start with the hub of the house - the kitchen and fancy butler's pantry

Widely considered the heart of the home, this fresh, sophisticated space includes a unique island bench for everyone to prepare food, dine and gather around. The Birds used The Dharma Door Woven Pot Duo to hold utensils and add some warmth in the mostly-white space and adjoining butler's pantry.

From there, take a few convenient steps into a gorgeous laundry

Situated for easy access, this gorgeous room features stunning handmade tiles and complementary cabinetry. The Dharma Door Mawa Broom works beautifully with the tones in the room, bringing some additional texture and variety to the mostly neutral space.

Head to the swoon-worthy master bedroom and ensuite

Aiming for a sophisticated space, these rooms continue the tones from downstairs and amp things up for the adults with an assortment of eye-catching statement pieces. Those gorgeous tiles from the laundry are repeated on a feature wall in the ensuite and we love how The Dharma Door Hemp Wash Cloth tones with them and the brass tapware.

Then upstairs to a light-filled his and hers home office

Featuring a large open skylight, the dual desks in this space repeat the fresh whites, warm tones and cane furniture positioned throughout the house. The Dharma Door Sona Square Basket is a practical and stylish addition to the desktop, while the Amada Runner pairs perfectly with a rattan sideboard in the hallway that connects to the staircase.

And then there is the pool house

Sitting away from the main house at the end of the pool area, this fun space dials up the getaway vibes and includes a generous day bed, bar area, guest room with ensuite and lounge. The Dharma Door Hemp Body Scrubber featured here, alongside some gorgeous pale blue tiles that literally scream summer.
